Not scraps. I spend a little fortune on the birds and animals. Many hunt wild animals. The areas they live in are being taken over for developments. They are shoved aside and grossly mistreated by so many people.
I feed them. With ninty-nine percent of the people against them, at least they have a few friends.Do you put out scraps of food for the birds and squirrels?
I regularly put out bread for the squirrels, but stopped for about a month. A fat gray squirrel was chasing all the others away and fighting with them for a scrap of bread. I'll start throwing bread out once this fat, ferocious squirrel relocates!Do you put out scraps of food for the birds and squirrels?
Only if you want unwanted pests. And, the wrong type of scraps can harm or kill them. Make sure you inquire on the internet what type of food the specific animal/s eat.
Never I don't like pests

Do squirrels share there food?
yeah i've seen it happen. We have lots of trees where I live and there are 3 squirrels I see come and go. They eat food from the same tree together so, am guessing thats sharingDo squirrels share there food?
I have a 2 acre animal sanctuary and all the animals eat side by side without fighting. They know I put out plenty of food for everyone. So yes they do share if you place enough out that all can know there will be some for everyone. Last night the possums was eating along side of the raccoons. They were not fighting. It is amazing to watch them. I have had the skunks eat along side the possums and coons before. They all share.Do squirrels share there food?
Well ive seen my squirrels (envirament) and theres two but they NEVA seen to want to share!!! Its like there in a race and try to see who gets the most nuts from the birdhouse!?!!!!
One day i looked outside my window, and saw two squirrels chasing eachother in circles, can u imagine that!?!?!? (the ones i was just talking about)
No. They actually fight over it. Some store it in their pouches for safe keeping and hide it in their dens.
Their favorite of all is walnuts and unsalted peanuts.
maybe, i mean they have a family, and sometimes friends..... so maybe they do. maybe they dont. they do seem kinda selfish when it comes to there food though.
With their babies, yes. With other squirrels, i doubt it because their really stingy.
Not intentionally, yet they do forgwet where they hid it sometimes. The little critters like to bury Walnuts in my flower pots. I end up growing walnut trees.
Yeah they love bitting each otheres nuts :P
THESE NUTTS ARE MINE AND NO ONE ELSE CAN HAVE THEM...That's unless if I want them to have them... :P
Not that I've ever seen.
why do u think u would find that thing tasty which squirrels eat.
i dont no ask them . xrefill

What are some 'household food items' that are good to feed birds, squirrels, wildlife, etc. ??
I put out all kinds of fruits, like grapes, berries, even raisins %26amp; nuts. Birds will eat some fruits, nuts, cereals, breads, plain crackers. What are some 'household food items' that are good to feed birds, squirrels, wildlife, etc. ??
bread crumbsWhat are some 'household food items' that are good to feed birds, squirrels, wildlife, etc. ??
Drain-o
Any bread, cereal products etc. Outdated (but not disgusting) produce, our deer will eat left over spaghetti even!
breakfast cereal. When the kids were little, they'd string Cheerios on yarn and hang it from the trees for the birds.
We tried with carrot, nuts, cabbage, corn, wheat, rice ... for white pegions, rabbits, tortoise ... they like them very much ... some times they snatch from your hand for more food. Even tortoise comes out from the shell to drag the cabbage from our hands ...
Bread, corn, and nuts. NOT RICE OR GRITS. HAHA!
Birds like bread if you rip it up in small pieces.
Unsalted seeds or nuts, bread, fresh vegies like carrots, romaine lettuce or apples. Never feed birds rice...they say it'll swell in their belly and possibly kill them. I'd probably just pick up a big bag of seeds from the store that are mixed esp. for wildlife. They are pretty cheap. They also sell whole corncobs for squirells that you hang on a tree. My mother used to have this thing that had four arms like an x attached to a wheel with corn attached to each end of the arms and it would spin when the squirell would jump on. It was crazy to watch them latched on a spinning for a bite of corn..but now that I think of it...that may be kinda mean I guess.
Sunflower seeds
Go to any large supermarket and check as to when they throw away there bread. Many such places do not have secure dumpsters and you can collect a ton of bread which is perfectly good. I do it for my birds out back and they are all fat, my squirrels love it also. Also: Squirrels love peanut butter a treat!
Popcorn, orange peels, peanuts, potato and carrot peelings. There are alot of things you can put out for the wildlife.refill

Squirrel food?
This morning my building maintenance guy was here with his finite wisdom---he plugged up a hole a squirrel was getting in-without making sure the squirrel was out at the time--I had nothing to do with this-the tenant that shares the attic did---
We have access doors to the attic-
my plan is to lure teh squirrel out---and then through the front door-
what kind of food should I useSquirrel food?
I live down South and we are overun with Squirrels all over the South and East Texas too. A Squirrell will eat anything. It will nibble and eat bread and pecans and all kinds of nuts and it will eat anything and everything and they are destructive little animals. There have been rare cases of the animal being caught with rabies and because it was rabid it was killed. I think you should call Animal Control or Animal Rescue to have someone catch it for you. It can bite too.Squirrel food?
Cracked corn.
Peanut butter, perhaps best in a rented Hav-a-hart trap
Nuts.

What are squirrels favourite foods?
Most squirrels eat nuts, seeds, grain, and fruit. By far their favorite food would be nuts, followed by sunflower seeds. Urban squirrel have adapted to eat just about anything, including pizza, luncheon meats and all forms of snack foods. Squirrels have been known to eat bird eggs, but this is a last resort. When natural food is scarce, they will eat anything they can find. What are squirrels favourite foods?

Is there any way to keep birds/squirrels out of my dog's food and water dishes?
I'm thinking that a plastic snake or something might scare them away.
but I hear that it doesn't work. (Your opinion?)
To keep the problem to a bare minimum, I try to only feed her at certain times and only what she can eat so that there's little to none left over.
But the birds are so bold, and my dog has so little hunting-instinct, that the birds will land on her food dish wile she is eating it! I looked out the kitchen window and was shocked to see a fat pigeon peck my dog when she tried to eat out of her own food dish!
My dog just walked away, it's so sad, I know.
They always get in her water dish, it's disgusting to see them swim and bathe in it.
When the dog is inside, I have her water dish inside as well, but when I'm at school the dog stays out and she will drink that dirty water!
A smaller problem is squirrels, they will occasionally ransack her food area when she isn't around. (She will chase squirrels, even if she's not good at it)
Before you suggest it, my Mom won't allow me to put her food dish in the house, because she makes a mess when she eats.
Do you have any suggestions or ideas that might help me?Is there any way to keep birds/squirrels out of my dog's food and water dishes?
The only thing I can think of is if you stood out there while she ate...The you would intimidate the birds and squirrels. But it depends I guess if your dog wouldn't pay any mind to the food and just want your attention, but if she just gobbles the food down I say you just wait til shes done eating. =)Is there any way to keep birds/squirrels out of my dog's food and water dishes?
How about treating your dog like a family member and allowing them to live with you? Dogs are social and keeping them outside is cruel. And apparently it is not working out either.
Try to remember that the poor dog feels alone, sad, depressed and isolated due to being outside.
Bonus would be - your dog eats and drinks fresh clean food and water. That is the least you can do.
A statue of owl. A real looking one.
Do not put it on ground by dish, put it on roof or on a tree near the dish
and birds and squirrels see it and think its real so they don`t come near.
It works for pigeons alot.
You could sit and watch it eat to protect it
or
you could just let it eat inside
My dogs eat outside but I don't have a problem with that because my dogs are mean and they wont let anyone or anything near them but me :3
They sell mats that you put under a dog's food %26amp; water bowls to contain any mess. If you clean up after her, there will be no mess for your mother to complain about. What do you do in bad weather, starve her?
Rat poison...
JK... but put nuts out for the squirrels on the other side of the yard, and a bird feeder on a tree or fence
Or have a schedule for feeding the dog
yeah, bring the bowl in
get a cat.
them when you have the chance
The plastic snake won't work. The plastic owls don't either.
Stay with her while she eats to keep the birds away and then pick up the dish when she is done.
If she is big enough, use a bucket instead of a water dish. Birds may drink out of it (but only if it is filled to the top) but they definitely won't bathe in a deeper bucket.
feed her at her scheduled meal time, leave the bowl out for 10-15 mins then bring the bowl in.. if the dog doesnt eat when fed, then she doesnt eat until the next meal.. your dog will learn to eat when fed.
Water bowl.. not much you can do except change it daily.. or several times a day (hey you wouldnt want to drink from the same bowl all day long anyways would you?)
You could try setting up a bird bath somewhere so the critters have their own place to go too.
To keep the birds away (and it might work on squirrels) here's what you should do:
Hang up red and silver shiny ribbons in your back yard. You can get them at the dollar store, etc. If you have a fence place it on that. The birds think that it is fire, and they stay away. This seriously worked for my aunt, and I'd definitely recommend it.
Good luck :)
First off- plastic snakes only work for a very short time if at all. A bowl with a spring loaded cover will solve the birds drinking the water and another for the food ...but really if the dog is so docile look and seeif the dog is overwight. A dog does no repeat not need to have food available at all times.Feed her before you go and when you get back. The speing loaded water dish will keep the pests out.A rodent trap on a shelf out of the dogs reach or even nailed onto a high spot near a railing will give a squirrel a headache at the least. Glue traps stick to thier filthy little paws and they go away then.Last, try to make a deal with Mom- a rug and a spot to sleep is a nice thing to do.

What is a squirrels favorite food?
favorite food? probably peanuts or sunflower seeds. Most nutritious?, especially for a developing squirrel, probably not. They actually need a lot of calcium which can be found in dry dog or cat food. of course a steady diet of this would not be good either. If you are enjoying feeding the squirrels create your own ';squirrel mix'; with all the favorites to attract them but with some of the ';healthy stuff' also including dried corn and dogfood. What is a squirrels favorite food?
Nuts!
Monkeynuts - it's fun to watch as they crack them open (but you'll have to sweep up later!)
Hazel nuts - they love these!
The occasional walnut - it's the look of amazement on their faces - try it, you'll see what I mean...just bowl it along the ground towards one.
Sunflower seeds, and bird seed in general. ';Sunflower hearts'; are loved by squirrels and birds alike and leave no messy bits, the whole lot gets eaten.
Very photogenic, squirrels...I hope you've got the camera out! What is a squirrels favorite food?
They like acorns more than anything. That's why you always find acorn tops without the actual acorn. They also like sunflower seeds but not as much as acorns.
they love sunflower seeds, and they're so cute whenever they're opening them.

How can I stop squirrels and birds from eating my cat's food?
Keep the cat inside. Not only will the squirrels and birds not eat the food but your cat will live probably five times longer. http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?ac鈥?/a>
FYI - if birds and squirrels are eating your cat's food you're obviously feeding it a cheap food that's made mostly of grain. For your cat's health switch to a better-quality meat-based food. How can I stop squirrels and birds from eating my cat's food?
I'd say get a cat, but I guess you already have one.
Shouldn't it be his problem? How can I stop squirrels and birds from eating my cat's food?
Keep your doors and windows closed!
feed the cat inside
Write your cat's name on your kitty's dish. (Lol j/k)
I would not leave the food out, if I were you. Besides, feeding him inside will ensure he comes home. Plus, if you leave the food outside, of course other animals will eat it. Most importantly, he may go hungry, and you may have a # of unwelcome animals hanging around.
Why are you leaving food outside and expecting nothing else to be hungry but your cat? Please feed the poor dear in the house, he can get diseases also from the other creatures outside!
keep your food indoors and let your cat come in and out. my cat can open the door but that's not always a good thing.
If you are feeding cats outside and leaving cat food out, then nothing. You'll have to feed them inside.
Besides that, your cats should be kept inside anyway. Who knows what harm they are doing to songbirds. I personally think it is irresponsible of cat owners to let their cats run free. Same goes for leaving food out.
Call the cat or wait till it shows up before you put the food out. Don't just leave the food sitting around to attract pests if the cat's not there.
(I think it's a bit silly how some people get so worked up about other people letting their cats out - that's what they've been doing for thousands of years anyway. If you just moved to an island with a dozen endangered bird species, that's another story, but in most areas where people have settled for a couple centuries or so, the birds will have adapted.)

Why can't squirrels and birds share the food God gave them?
=0)Why can't squirrels and birds share the food God gave them?

Manna cannot be horded. It goes icky after a day.
It's because of the SRA uprising, which is the Squirrel Republican Army rebellion that has been going on since 1521.
The squirrel rebel forces took up arms against the birds for not allowing them to practice their own religion and preventing them from speaking the traditional squirrel language.
The birds were enforcing a new religion and a new language on the squirrels, and that is when the rebellion started, and it has been an ongoing fight between the two parties ever since.
Heathens
We ARE trying to share the Food God gave us. But they don't want to accet Jesus.
Well if hawks would stop trying to swoop down and grab content citizens of parkia...
I'll share my Martinis if Bad Squirrel shares his Xanax.
Survival of the fittest.
There are only so many corndogs in the world.
I didn't know squirrels ate insects
Because God said that we hawks are the best animal.
Greed... it's so so so sad :(
squirrels do not like to share.
They all just steal seeds and nuts from the trees, pah... *sulks* That's murder!
They need a mediator and a translator for starters....
;o)
It's all about those greedy Bluejays.
Well. I'm with u but, to survive u have 2 do whatever u can do.
but I still say they should share
For the same reason Arabs won't share their oil.
They can...that is not a sin ; )
different palatial appetites?......:-)
being that nature is the strong kills the weak, maybe Christians are on the right path by ignoring Jesus's whole message of peace and turning Christianity into a warrior cult
why are you analyzing birds and squirrels? You need a hobby, get a BB gun (just kidding)

You need a hobby, get a BB gun (just kidding)
holy wars?
Do you think squirrels ever go into other squirrels nests and steal their food out for themselves?
it would be alot less foraging for them and they'd have more time to playDo you think squirrels ever go into other squirrels nests and steal their food out for themselves?
Looking back into the misty remembrances of my youth I recall a show called Wild Kingdom.
If I'm remembering Wild Kingdom correctly, squirrels (and other rodents, one presumes) will indeed swipe unprotected edibles from each other.
Not because they're mean, but because all they know is they found a cache of unprotected tasty treats.
Or, maybe they're mean. It's not like I have insightful acquaintances with squirrels.Do you think squirrels ever go into other squirrels nests and steal their food out for themselves?
Probably so. Rotten little bastages!
Maybe, that's why you see them scattering around with their cheeks all puffed up. They look pretty cute..
I hate squirrels they are so pesky climbing all over the roof of my house and just look at you like so what do you want.

Is rat food good for squirrels?
well, one of the neighborhood squirrells was at my garbage today, Im not sure if it was him that had knocked the lid off, but now I'll be remembering to lock it. We have lots of squirrells here, and I think they have enough to forage, but there's so many of them that they may need help this winter? I have a pet rat who doesnt like her rat food. She prefers to eat dinner with me(she loves her qasedeas and veggie wraps :) . how far off is a squirrels diet from a rats? if the squirrels have been foraging natural foods, would their bodies be able to handle all the preservatives in the pet mixes??Is rat food good for squirrels?
Squirrles would love your un eaten rat food ,,but do not encourage them as they eat water hoses ,,wood from your home,,electrical wires..and yes ..all your bird food and will pull your feeders down..I bet ya live in a sub..we have more TREE RATS in neighborhoods now than live in the woods,,their eating habbits,,just like rats...and they breed like rats and mice also..get your gun..take care ..they are like ratsIs rat food good for squirrels?
why do you guys always pick the WORST answer to be the best answer?? WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ALL OF YOU?!!
Squirrels collect an abundance of food and hide away in little caches, many , many caches..so many they never find them all. One of natures ways of planting trees....is forgotten acorn seeds or pinecone tree seeds. They do not starve. They semi hibernate most of the winter.
Squirrels love corn on the cob, and bird seeds of all kinds, and acorns from oak trees.....I have no idea about rat food.

Squirrels, rabbits and rats as food?
They are a problem now in the UK. So why do we not eat them? Lots of recipes for rabbit but how do I prepare and cook squirrel and rat. My first attempt at eating rat was not to good, it was a stringy meat but then I only microwaved it. If I knew how to cook them properly maybe they would be OK.
The cookery books are no good, just the same things all the time, no guide to cooking different meats..Squirrels, rabbits and rats as food?
Hi there,
Below I have typed two honest-to-God recipes I have in a book full of recipes from the southern United States, where people do eat squirrels on occasion. I've never tried it. As far as rats, I'm not sure that would be a good idea to try. They can carry lots of diseases and are rather dirty animals because they eat garbage and dead things alot. %26gt;:P
Broiled Squirrel
Squirrel is one of the finest and tenderest of all wild meats. It's flavor is mild, rarely gamey. There is no need for soaking, and seldom any need for parboiling. They should be cleaned as soon as possible after shooting, but skinning may wait until they're ready to be cooked. Clean squirrels and rub with salt and pepper. Brush with fat and place on a hot broiling rack. Broil 40 minutes, turning frequently and basting with drippins every 10 minutes. Serve with gravy from drippins and season with 1 to 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.
Fried Squirrel
Make sure all the hair is cleaned off the squirrel. Cut it up. If it's old and tough, put it in the pressure cooker for about 15-20 minutes. Salt and Pepper it. Cover with flour and fry in a cast iron skillet on a medium fire until brown and tender. This is a real sweet meat. You can smother a squirrel just like a chicken.
Enjoy.Squirrels, rabbits and rats as food?
Rats carry disease and are pretty nasty. There is a reason why they are considered to be vermin.
Squirrel and rabbit, on the other hand, are excellent food sources, both low in fat and high in protein.
SQUIRREL/RABBIT/CHICKEN SMOTHER FRIED
Both squirrel and rabbit can be cooked the same way. Cut up into pieces as you would chicken. Mix flour, salt, and pepper in a shallow dish. Dredge the pieces of meat in the mixture then drop into hot oil, about 1/2'; oil in a large skillet. Cook over medium heat until the underside browns, turn over and cook other side. Remove meat from skillet to platter. Pour off all but about 2 T of the fat and residue in the skillet. Add 1/4 c. flour to drippings, stir over medium heat until brown. Add 2 c. milk/water mixture, a little at a time, stirring constantly til all is incorporated. Add meat, cover, turn down to simmer and simmer about 30- 45 minutes until meat is succulently tender. Great over rice!
Time saving version: brown meat as indicated, remove from skillet, pour off oil into tin can and discard. Add 1 can cream of mushroom soup and a can of water to skillet, add meat. Bring to boil, stir, cover, lower heat to simmer, cook as indicated.
I know some people eat rats but don't think I'll be one of them, however squirrel and rabbit are good. We make squirrel dumplings, stew or boil squirrel, remove from cooking liquid to cool, reserve liquid, mix 2 cups self rising flour with 1/4 cup oil and 1 cup milk, re heat reserved liquid and add meat picked from squirrel, 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 cup milk and enough water to have room to cook dumplings, bring liquid to a boil and drop dumplings by teaspoons, add dumplings until liquid is thickened. turn to low and cook for about 20 minutes until dumpling are done inside when cut. enjoy
Typically, you want to cook meat until a meat thermometer reaches 150 degrees F in the center.
However, there are recipes for these meats. YouTube has many mini cooking shows people put up, including for these meats.
Rabbit: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_qu鈥?/a>

Rat (I found only one for a large rat in the Louisiana called ';Nutria';): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuXEaNdwr鈥?/a>
Don't eat rat, they are scavengers and eat poop and rotten things. Squirrel meat is good, it can be cooked like rabbit, pan seared or stewed. Lots of recipes out there for it.
OMG DO NOT EAT RAT!!!! JUST KILL THE $#%%26amp;*@$!!!!
As far as rabbit and squirrell I know people that eat them. Just look up sites that are about eating wild game.
didn't you pay attention in history your people got the bubonic plague from eating rats.

What foods do chipmunks and squirrels like to eat?
every morning i have squirrels and chipmunks on my porch. i leave out bread and lettuce for them. even a little bottle of water ( the chipmunk likes the water). what foods do they like to eat? What foods do chipmunks and squirrels like to eat?
nuts and vegetables...hope this helped! What foods do chipmunks and squirrels like to eat?
They do like vegetables like they lettuce and carrots but they really like cow corn and sunflower seeds
Oh MY GOODNESS!!!! They are charming little pests! They love bird seed. I have to have a guard on my bird feeder, because I don't want them 'helping' themselves! They also would love peanut butter, maybe on some crackers. They actually have feeders you can get for the squirrel and/or chipmunk. I like the animal, don't get me wrong, I just don't want them eating my bird seed! They are fun to watch.
For an inexpensive treat you can leave out dry and slightly moistened dog food nuggets. They have a good balance of protein and vegetable matter and my baby squirrels like it. ( I am a licensed rehabilitator)
Put out some sunflower seeds, dry corn and stuff for like birds. If you go to Wal-mart they usually have bags of stuff to feed them.

Metal pole with bird feeders on it..how to keep squirrels from climbing up and eating all food?
I have put vaseline on pole..but it wears off too fast...Metal pole with bird feeders on it..how to keep squirrels from climbing up and eating all food?
This is from Birds and Blooms Mag. Simply drill a hole in bottom of a plastic planter and slip it on the pole top-down below the feeder. Then sit back and watch as the squirrels try to climb the pole. If you can find this magazine their are quite a few other ideas to try.Metal pole with bird feeders on it..how to keep squirrels from climbing up and eating all food?
they make a device i'm not sure what it is called but it looks like the thing they put on a dog when it has wound to keep it from chewing on the bandages it acts as a obstacle they can't get around to get to the bird feeders.
over the birder feeder drill a hole in a pie pan and put it through the string over the feeder. when the squirrel jumps on it it wiil fall of.
they make squirrle baffles. they are these large metal or plastic funnel looking things that go around a bird feeder pole that keeps them from climbing to the top. about 20 bucks or less. depending..

Halal foods - are squirrel waffles okay?
Unlike Mr Vauxhall Cavalier and Police Girl I wouldn`t put any old thing in my mouth !Halal foods - are squirrel waffles okay?
The meat of most animals (other than Pigs, which are never acceptable in Islam) is halal if it is killed in accordance with the laws of Dhabiha (ie blessed by an Imam, no anaethesia %26amp; drained of blood - as per the Quran).
Although I dont know many people who'd be keen on trying them so to kill them in accordance with Dhabiha regulations would probably be a waste of time.Halal foods - are squirrel waffles okay?
thst doesnt sound so good, i would prefere sweet waffles if your making them
?
Squirrel is fine. Halal is the way its killed. as long as the dirty tree dweller doesn`t have its head cut off. Feast away!
only if you bled the squirrel on a night with a full moon ;)
No police girl.....obviously just whole idiot.
British people should care about that, not Bulgarians with self-employed visas like you!
Shut it now!
yuck sooner you than me
Why would you want to eat a waffle made from squirrels???
EEWWWW!
Doesn't sound appetising to me, but go ahead and eat it if you want. Can't tell you how healthy that is though.
So you are a half asian as well then?
You would have to serve them with Nutella!!
sure! - if you like hair in your mouth and nuts on your tongue!!

Dried cat food for squirrels?
does anyone know if it's ok to give squirrels dried cat food??Dried cat food for squirrels?
You should not feed squirrels at all nor any other wildlife. Wild animals regulate their reproduction according to available food sources. The squirrels are perfectly capable of feeding themselves.Dried cat food for squirrels?
No - squirrels are rodents - not carnivores like cats. Give them food made specifically for squirrels. Many stores like Target, Lowes, etc sell ';Critter Mix'; that has corn, sunflower seeds, peanuts, etc.
If you're feeding your cat a cheap grocery store food made mostly of corn it probably won't harm the squirrel but then you're harming your cat by feeding it that garbage. So buy squirrel food for the squirrel and healthier food with meat as the main ingredient for your cat.
There is no harm to give them the food...refill

Whats is the food of squirrels?
two thingsWhats is the food of squirrels?
Squirrels may ignore food that they're unfamiliar with. They're also naturally suspicious of traps.
Try placing cashews, walnuts, pecans, or almonds outside the trap for a few days. Let the varmints get a taste for them. Then, put the nuts in the trap and see what happens.
It's really a matter of trial and error. You can try various kinds of fruit, vegetables, legumes, bones (for calcium and phosphorous), mushrooms, dry cereal, rice, olives, corn etc. Avoid foods high in saturated fats, but don't worry about small amounts of salt, and foods high in unsaturated fats are especially beneficial for hibernating nutzys.
Your creeps will decide for themselves what they will and won't eat. They may reject the obvious, like a peanut, and insist on expensive nuts like pecans and almonds. They may also prefer certain foods at different times of the year. For example, fox squirrels seem to crave foods high in sodium during April and September, and chitterboxes may be interested in bones while lactating but snub this treat at all other times.Whats is the food of squirrels?
squirrels eat acorns , beechnuts , hichory nuts , pine cones and other assorted seeds
it will eat nuts, gauva, peanut is favourite for it
Squirrels most of the times eat nuts and fruits acording to my knowledge

Two species of ground squirrels live in the same area. They compete for the same food supply and dig...?
Two species of ground squirrels live in the same area. They compete for the same food supply and dig burrows in the same fields. The most likely outcome of this competition is
a) the stronger species will increase in number
b) the weaker species will decrease in number
c) predators will immigrate to balance the populations
d) the squirrels will learn to get along and agree to share the resourcesTwo species of ground squirrels live in the same area. They compete for the same food supply and dig...?
B is the answer. The stronger will outcompete the other. The weaker will have fewer surviving offspring because it will not have access to the same level of food and fail as a population.

They love corn and sunflower seeds, and whatever else they can steal from the birdfeeders. I usually put out some corn for them, there are some really cute squirrel feeders out on the market. They also love peanuts, or any other kind of nut. You can train them to eat from your hand with peanuts.

Why do squirrels pee on thier food?
my daughter is doing a science project and she wanted to see if a squirrel would eat a cheesenip. The result was it peed on it and took it away. We need to know why it peed on it and if it took it away to hide it and eat it later or what it might have done with it after it peed on it and took it away. Why do squirrels pee on thier food?
He will sometimes urinate on food that he does not like or wipe his mouth on the ground.
There is a good link to follow - everything on squirrels as petsWhy do squirrels pee on thier food?
squirrels have real bad eyesight, but have very good sense of smell, so they pee on their food to find it after they bury it. Do you know how to catch a squirrel? You climb up a tree and act like a nut! hahahahah

squirrels have real bad eyesight, but have very good sense of smell, so they pee on their food to find it after they bury it. Do you know how to catch a squirrel? You climb up a tree and act like a nut! hahahahah
What foods do Squirrels and chipmunks like to eat?
i have some squirrels and chipmunks who like to crawl around on my porch. so far, i've been leaving bread out for them. they seem to like that. what else do they like to eat? any fruits, or vegetables? What foods do Squirrels and chipmunks like to eat?
You should not feed them bread, or anything with processed sugars and flour. It is not a healthy diet for them, even though they will eat it.
They savor nuts and sunflower seeds, but will also take fruit, especially grapes, apple slices and berries, and they love corn. At least the ones in my yard do. and don't forget, just like birds, they appreciate a source of clean, fresh water. What foods do Squirrels and chipmunks like to eat?
chipmunks like to eat seeds or peanuts.
squirrels love sunflower seeds as well as many types of nuts and will quickly eat up any seeds that you put on the ground. squirrel has a varied diet with mast crops (acorns, walnuts, beechnuts, etc.) being a very important component. Other food items include seeds, fruits, insects, fungi, and occasional bird eggs and bird nestlings. At the end of the summer, gray squirrels will store seeds and nuts to feed on when food is scarce during the winter months.

What are the foods eaten by squirrel?
Squirrels will eat just about anything that is not meat. They love all kids of seeds and nuts, breads, junk foods, LOL I live in Ann Arbor, U of M campus, and I saw one that was dragging around a whole piece of pizza! What are the foods eaten by squirrel?
Nuts they love ,But they are crazy crazy for an ear of corn that can be purchased at any grain store.
I even have a special squirrel feeder just for them ,it is a table with a spike on it for the corn to sit straight up.What are the foods eaten by squirrel?
Squirrels love monkey nuts, which they can open themselves. And they love unsalted cashew nuts.
I think they probably like most nuts but make sure they are not salted as the salt is not good for them.
foods eaten by a squirrel are nuts, berries and small bugs (not spiders)
umm i think nuts. well thats what they eat on tv lol

I saved a baby squirrel he's about 12 wks at least already eating walnuts what foods should I start him on?
This baby squirrel is already eating walnuts does anyone know from exp what other types of food I should try him on? Trying to get him ready for the world outside he's very healthy and doing very good. Need hel asap....Thanks:o)I saved a baby squirrel he's about 12 wks at least already eating walnuts what foods should I start him on?
The baby squirrel must've been really cute... I don't think having a squirrel as a pet is dangerous. But you'd better ask a vet on how to take care of it. Once it is big enough %26amp; can survive on it's own, you'd better let it go... Don't just keep him in a cage. Let it be free. But if you think that the condition outside is too dangerous for him, then just let it go around your lawn area. If he likes you a lot, then he would've come back %26amp; visit you again. What ever it is, take a really good care of it. Make sure your cat or dog doesn't eat the baby squirrel!I saved a baby squirrel he's about 12 wks at least already eating walnuts what foods should I start him on?
Honey, a squirrel isnt meant to be a pet. That is why they arent sold at the pet store, as hard as it might be you need to return him back to the wild. Squirrels are cute but they can acually be very dangerous. Let him be outside and maybe leave some walnuts for him, but dont be his parent, he needs to be outside where he belongs.
Good Luck
you should take him to a wild animal shelter. they will be able to take care of him properly.
In many places, it is illegal to take care of wildlife, even if you intend to release it, unless you are permitted to do so. I highly recommend that you try and contact a local wildlife rehabilitator.
www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/contact.htm
I know that you are well meaning, but believe me it is not that simple to raise a squirrel to adulthood. Rehabilitators are trained and have the knowledge to raise it properly. Squirrels that are fed an inappropriate diet will get metabolic bone disease (you may never know it has it) and it will die out in the wild.
Please do what is in the best interest of him and contact a rehabilitator. You may even be able to offer that person some volunteer time so you can see him grow up and be released.
Don't keep him as a PET he is a wild animal. Look in your phone book for wild life sanctuary. Or call a local vet they will tell you where to take him. don't think you are taming him down. They bite, and chew on wires and furniture and even if you could house break him. He will become an adult male with all the equipment and he will want to use it! Let him be WILD or you will regret not doing so earlier!
ring your local wildlife services or ask avet.
Your best option would be to contact your nearest wildlife organisation.Good Luck

Why aren't more raccoons, squirrels, and rats having heart attacks since they eat junk food from our trash?
Because they don't eat them while sitting on the couch watching six straight hours of Maury. They actually go out and do things to burn off the fats. Why aren't more raccoons, squirrels, and rats having heart attacks since they eat junk food from our trash?
How do you know they don't? How many autopsies have you sit in on to see? Next time you dissect a rat in lab check it out.Why aren't more raccoons, squirrels, and rats having heart attacks since they eat junk food from our trash?
hahaha thats a good question my friend

If it tastes good, nothing.Squirrel is used in foods in certain places in the U.S. How much would I have to pay you to eat Squirrel Stew?

It tastes like cutchi.
Tell me it's chicken, and I'll probably eat it free of charge.
My aunt fed me squirrel when I was 3, and told me it was chicken. So gullible I was.
I'd eat it if I were hungry enough. I used to see some of my family members eating squirrel when I was a kid (they like it battered and fried). They also like deer meat. I might have also liked these things if they hadn't felt the need to show me the animals before they were prepared.
I'd rather not have to eat squirrel, lol. They look like rats with long furry tails!
You should try beef tongue. It's really good. I'd never eat it purposely, but I did once when I didn't know what it was.

Squirrels food?
When a squirrel buries its food for the winter how does it know where it is buried, does it remember or do they bury that much that they can't go wrong.
I know they are vermin and should be culled but my kids love them.Squirrels food?
!. smell. Watch them in the winter smelling the ground looking for their buried food.
2. They can not aways find it. I don't know if they are smelling for their food or the scent they left when they buried it but you will find new plants in the spring come up from a small pile of buried seed. They are no more vermin than wild flowers are weeds. If you like them they are warm fuzzy animals, if you don't they are smelly, diseased vermin.Squirrels food?
Squirrels are not vermin, they are food! Prepare properly do taste very good.
It is not the fault of the Grey squirrel, that it was introduced to the U.K. Do not cull it. I feed the birds with all the left over parrot food, the squirrel get plenty to. They do not have to bury it because it is always plentiful.
the red ones are cute, its the american ones we should cull as they are killing our red ones.
they have defined areas where they bury nuts,in some woods if you watch you will also see jays burying nuts in the same area as long as they both find some i would call it mutual sharing
It is my understanding that Squirrels do not know where they bury/hide food. So if that is true I guess they just eat the food they find.. that may be some that another Squirrel hid.
I don't think squirrels are vermin - they don't need to be culled. I live next to a park so I get squirrels in my garden, they are absolutely adorable. I love watching them and they are so clever. The squirrel cleans each nut or seed that he buries. This leaves a scent so he knows where to find it, even if it is buried under a blanket of snow. But they don't dig up everything they bury. :)
Sqirrels and nuthatches and jays rely on visual memory to locate buried stash, based on the placement of trees, rocks and even small stones in the vicinity. Squirrels then use their extremely keen sense of smell to locate precisely. When burying a nut, squirrels nibble out the embryo part which prevents further growth.
Red and grey squirrels occupy different habitats, The greys preferring deciduous woods and a more omnivorous opportunistic feeding behaviour. The reds prefer coniferous forests and are adapted to feeding on pine cones. The two species are not in direct competition and the only justification for culling greys would be for endangering other wildlife or plants by their large numbers.
they jest know were to find it when they want to get it
they can smell it

Please make a food chain... blue jay, bear, fish, mosquito, frog, lizard, pond grass, oak trees, and squirrel,?
i don't know how to make a food chain. by any chance could some one make a food chain with these animals?.... thank you very much...Please make a food chain... blue jay, bear, fish, mosquito, frog, lizard, pond grass, oak trees, and squirrel,?
Usually we start with the sun because it is the primary energy source for plants... and from there on:
Oak Trees----%26gt; Squirrel ----%26gt; Carnivore
Pond Grass---%26gt; Mosquito----%26gt; Frogs and Lizards
Mosquitoes in general are omnivores; it is usually the females that feed on blood as a protein supply to make eggs so the mosquitoes could be feeding on the pond grass. The frogs and lizards may be insectivorous (i.e. they prey on insects) so would then eat the mosquitoes.
Another example of a food chain:
Sun ---%26gt; Savannah grass ---%26gt; Springbok ---%26gt; Lion ----%26gt; Detritivores
The arrows always point in the direction that the energy is going i.e. the Springbok is feeding the lion so the arrow points from the springbok to the lion, not vice versa.
Detritivores are organisms which prey on decomposing meat like vultures, hyena, insects, fungi etc.

Do squirrels mark or urinate where they get food? I leave food for squirrels and I find little yellow puddles?
Yes they do. Haven't you ever wondered how squirrels find and remember where they buried nuts and food for the winter months and some how remember ALL the places they hid them? Yep, you guessed it, they ';mark'; them. If you have several colonies in an area (which most people do) you will notice urination spots, discoloration on a feeding post, or nawing marks. This is the way they mark their food sources and their nesting trees. Just like dogs, cats, bears, ect, mark their territories so do squirrels. It may be best to have more than one feeder and have them spread out around your property. This will help from feuding or distruction of one feeder. Just for fun, you can tie a corn cob to a large twine or string and hang it from branches and watch the fun. It makes them work for their food, keeps them and you entertained, but does help curb territorial disputes sometimes. This time of year I will tie about 20 ears of corn all over the yard instead of keeping a feeder. It keeps them from the bird feeder and everyone is happy. Especially me when I watch them do acrobatics trying to get to the corn or gourd feeders. lol

What other food can i feed squirrels that are in my garden, no abuse please?
Last year we found a wholemeal roll with seeds and nuts under the bonnet of our car, put there by squirrels. The ones in my garden love sunflower seeds and peanuts, in or out of shells. In fact they will eat almost anything I put out for the birds .What other food can i feed squirrels that are in my garden, no abuse please?
In Florida Squirrels are classified as non-endangered ';pests';, they are also considered a ';game'; animal. Given that, if you enjoy your house and property, including your garden, I have but one suggestion;
DON'T FEED THE SQUIRRELS
or you will be in for a major 'treat' each year around breeding season. What other food can i feed squirrels that are in my garden, no abuse please?
I have hundred's of squirrels where I live, also fox's and rabbits.I leave food out for the fox's,the rabbits help themselves, and ALL my squirrels have a bird table, everyday I put nuts and fruit out and although they should not be out at this time of year it is always gone within a few hours (so we start all over again).I watch all wild life and I have had people tell me not to feed them, but I tell them to mind their own business.Cannot wait for the hedgehogs, love to hear them chasing the plates round my patio at the moment they are asleep in my shed.By the way my squirrels will eat cat and dog food, but I think they like peanuts with their shell on best. (Not treated)but apple, acorns, any fruit will do.
Let the little blighters fend for themselves. It's what nature intended.
They eat from my bird feeders so I guess bird seed is ok.
Squirrels are very destructive I am not sure you should encourage this.
As kids we packed suet or peanut butter into pine cones (that had fallen off trees) and then rolled them in bird seed and hung them from tree branches. They ate that too!!
try searching on squirrel food
I've watched squirrels in my back yard eat my dog's dry dog food.
Dried corn on the cob, bird feed (not thistle seed), popcorn popped, old bread, pumpkin seed, sunflower seed, and peanut butter.
My squirrels always like feild corn and sunflower seeds. That's what is easy for me to feed. I have never tried fruits or veggies to see what else they liked. I suspect any grain or nut would be good and quite possibly bread crusts.
As an estate gardener the owner had large nails about six feet up the sides of trees and I would put ear corn from a feed store on these about once a week. They were fun to watch and the hawks had fun chasing them. As suggested I'am not sure it was the best for the trees as they loved to chew the ends of the tree branches to drop their nest building sticks. Don't ask about the Canadian Geese and the yard!!
squirrels, like lot麓s of nut麓s they eat oat麓barley they like apple麓s all the thing麓s you find in muesli .
We have two squirrels that entertain me often in the yard, but we do have pecan trees too. I put out deer corn, I am sure any corn would be apprepriate. I throw out bread crumbs, cracker crumbs, to feed the outdoor birds; and then seeds from my cockateils, and parrot when I clean out the cage. This is nice because the sunflower seeds grow and make not only a great decoration but also a head and they go for the seed from that too. I also try to leave out a container filled with water for them.
nuts, seeds and fruits.
field corn, peanuts and sun flower seeds..
If you are in the uk, then dont. They are probably grey squirrels, and for some unknown reason in the UK they destroy trees. If they are red squirrels as here in France, then they love nuts and fruit.
squirrels love nuts!
my kids love to feed the squirrels and chipmunks. we place the food for the squirrels far from our garden though.
we toast bread and put peanut butter on it then dip it in black sunflower seeds.
we do this with old bagels and big pine cones too. with these you can tie string or yarn to them and hang them from trees or the windows for you to watch closely in the house.
they have dried corn cobs with a squirrel feeder here at the hardware store too
have fun and enjoy those squirrels

using milk product from pet stor and squirrel food. please adviseFound 5-6mth squirrel in flower bed he seems to spasming. is taking food and breathing but no body movement?
I would take it to a nearby veternarian or emergency animal hospital. The poor thing may be in pain, and if it can't be healed then it may be best to put it down. But definently go to a vet because you may be able to save its life and rehabilitate it.Found 5-6mth squirrel in flower bed he seems to spasming. is taking food and breathing but no body movement?

Where can I find the best food prices for ';Cats,Tropical Birds,&Wild Birds/Squirrels?
I live in Washington State, but would be interested in online sites as well.Where can I find the best food prices for ';Cats,Tropical Birds,%26amp;Wild Birds/Squirrels?
Walmart has always worked for me. I'm on a VERY limited budget and they always seem to have a good choice on things like that. Also if u are looking for food for birds and squirrels u might also wanna try to make some urself... its very easy, and fun and they seem to like it more then store bought things. I mix salt free nuts, honey, birdseed and yogurt covered rasins in a pan and bake them on low heat for about 25 mins. also try it with cranberrys... u can use the all ready dehydrated ones but the fresh ones are the best and cheaper plus when u bake them with the mix they wont lose all there natural juices and the animals love it! GoodLuck :)
Feed Stores are great! They have anything u need abd u can buy in Bulk as well... Good Luck:)Where can I find the best food prices for ';Cats,Tropical Birds,%26amp;Wild Birds/Squirrels?
I think it isn't important to find the best price, it is important to find the best quality: Sheba
Maybe you should try PetSmart. They have extremely cheap price Ranges
maybe if u have a pets mart

Why do squirrels eat all of the food in bird feeders?
Food good, yum... ;)Why do squirrels eat all of the food in bird feeders?
They are just greedy, i feed them as well by throwing peanuts and biscuits on the ground , they will finish it and still go for the feeders. We have a long pole that you can buy from Garden centres and then fit different size hooks to hang the feeders on, we have one and we smeared the pole with Vaseline, grease etc and now the squirrells cannot get to the feeders, they slip off, quite funny to watch.:))Why do squirrels eat all of the food in bird feeders?
quite simply because they can!
they love sunflower seeds.
%26amp;
you didn't put out any squirrel food.
Because they're hungry.
they don't quit lying

What food do i feed to a squirrel?
will it eat meatWhat food do i feed to a squirrel?
You dont need to feed them honey, just let them loose in the yard. Squirrels will eat bird seed, the shingles on your roof, dog food, flowers, fruit from my garden, pecans and other nuts and really anything , except meat. What food do i feed to a squirrel?
Squirrels are very fond of corn on the cob also. They are fun to watch, but can be a nuisance. Enjoy your fuzzy critters.
Peanuts. I don't think meat is such a good idea.
Squirrel Food~Peanuts, Corn %26amp; Sunflower Seeds
Nuts, corn on a cob,or bird seed would be good.
I don't know about meat but try a nut.
Walnuts.
all type of nut
give it nuts and honey

Chestnuts. Don't train it to eat meat or it might eat you soon.
nuts - sunflower seeds
and the ones in my back yard used to eat ORANGES!
and the ggrove owner came over to fuss at MOM
she defended us - as they chatted - lil bit ran between then
and up the tree - and the orange peel hit the pile that they were standing around ----- after a quiet pause
The grove man apologized to my mother
she apologized to him that not ALL her children had been trained properly
they both laughed - and had a nice day!
Arsnic. I hate tree rats.
Unsalted peanuts

Why do squirrels eat my dogs food?
Squirrels will eat just about anything they can easily find. Try feeding your dog indoors, to prevent any complications. Why do squirrels eat my dogs food?
well, this is really simple. u need to put squirrel food out and then they won't eat the dog food. Why do squirrels eat my dogs food?
hahaahahaha mann thats funny...
if you put ur dog's food dish outside, then thats why. either move ur dog's feeding area to inside in the kitchen (so that no food gets on the carpet in the rest of your house) or put out a squirrel feeder so that squirrels will have their own food to eat.
because they're hungry
They will eat about anything. Especially if it is an easy meal Ann
They're hungry I guess.
Squirrels will eat almost anything that is used to make dog food. Even bone meal, Put out some whole kernel corn in a feeder and the squirrels should start going to it instead of the dogs food.
they are hungry
Yesssssssss squirrels will eat almost anything
Squirrels are scavengers and eat pretty much anything, and work very little for it. Have you ever heard of someone complaining about how the squirrels ate their bird seeds? Honestly, if it is dry dog food, if you look at the components that make up the dry dog food, it is stuff like grains and etc. That isnt too much different from the nuts and such that you find on the ground, and why would they go hunting and digging for it, when you put it very easily in a bowl for them. :) Maybe you should switch where you put the dogs food (besides, squirrels can carry illnesses, so can the raccoons that find the food tasty, and anything else that might get in the food) to keep other animals from it and to keep your dog safe. OR - you could always put the food with the dog for a period of time, keep your eye on it and then bring it in to put out at the same time the next day. It doesnt matter day or night either, because there are nosey animals at both times.
Hope this helps.
Squirrels will eat anything, and if you let them have a food source, they can literally infest the place and chew your house to pieces. They are specially dangerous around electrical wiring.
Squirrels like food. Any kind. If you leave your dog food outside, your bound to have a squirrel problem later in the year when it's mating season. Now, I'm no squirrel expert, but I think you can either make a box around the food bowl, keep the food bowl in your dog's house, or let your dog eat inside. Hope this helps!

I live in Boise, Idaho and there are a lot os those little guyys running around. They like to get anything that requires little effort. I am from the Southern States and I would have normally had a few of them on my dinner plate. LOL!!! Here they are more like public pets. If they do not bother you too much enjoy them. Sguirrels are good at finding weak spots on bird feeders. There manufacturers that try to make squirrl proof feeders. Usually they will find a weak point if they like what is on the menu.

How do I feed squirrels in my backyard, while making sure that the neighborhood rats don't eat the food?
I have squirrels in my back yard -- and they make me laugh. The rats don't. I want to feed the squirrels in the wintertime and not the rats. What should I do? Thanks. How do I feed squirrels in my backyard, while making sure that the neighborhood rats don't eat the food?
How sad that there are rats in your yard. Can't you call the city and have them do something about that? Rats carry disease you know. It is not good to have them around.
Historically, rats, or technically, the fleas on rats, spread the bubonic plaque around the world. They are nasty disease spreading animals and I would do what ever I could to kill them.
Our neighbors feed the squirrels as well. They are fun to watch, so I would say to get some squirrel feeders. Rats aren't good climbers and they won't be as agile as the squirrels are. You could also train them to eat peanuts right out of your hand as my 83 year old neighbor does. How do I feed squirrels in my backyard, while making sure that the neighborhood rats don't eat the food?
Like everyone else said, the tree-mounted bird feeder will work, but be careful, as cute as those squirrels are, they are still a rodent, and inherently dirty. They will also take up home in your car or home like rats if they get too populous around your home.
there are squirrel feeders to put in trees get a pellit gun and take care of the rats
hang a feeder (you can use a bird feeder) from a tree branch.
the best thing I have found for both squirrels and rats is a mix of double strength rat poison and peanut butter. They will scarf it on down and then go a way and not return for several weeks, then you get to do it again.
buy a squirrel feeder and place it in the tree, this would be your best bet you can find them at your local walmart,
The squirrels will be there without your feeding them. But maybe the rats -- who feel paranoid out in the open -- might go away.
Use an elevated squirrel feeder-but only feed the what they can consume in one day,so no food is available to the nocturnal rodents.
I find feeding the squirrels in the morning works best. Rats are more active at night, so don't have any seeds left by sundown. Our birds generally eat the rest before their bedtime.
Good luck.

How do you keep squirrels from climbing up your bird feeder and eating all of the bird food.?
I have liberallly applied shortening to make slippery, but it does not stop them. How do you keep squirrels from climbing up your bird feeder and eating all of the bird food.?
There are collars that you can buy and attach to your feeder pole. However, if you are near a tree, the squirrel will just jump from a limb and continue to help himself. The only real way to stop them and save your bird feed for the birds is to buy a squirrel-proof bird feeder. Havahart makes several. I have included a link to their site. I know that Lowe's carries at least one type. I bought one for my brother-in-law. It really works.
http://www.havahart.com/bird/_old_bird/s鈥?/a>How do you keep squirrels from climbing up your bird feeder and eating all of the bird food.?
You can use a 2 foot piece of 6'; PVC pipe. Center it on the pole holding the feeder and just below the feeder. You can get ready made versions of this item at places like Wildbirds Unlimited or other places that sell bird feeders. They are called cylinder baffles.
Hide the ladder....? ha..ha..ha..ha...ho..ho..never mind.
try putting a sheet of plastic wrapped around the pole to the feeder, they can't get past the slick surface.
Play a loop tape of a eminem song that'll keep em away
dont know what theyre called... but its a big funnel on the pole, big side down, they cant get around it. check home and garden store.
If its a red Squirrel then leave it alone a let it share the food with the birds.if its grey, then shoot the little f***ker!
I have been very successful from keeping three rambunctious squirrels that live in my yard from raiding my bird feeders by adding cayenne pepper to the seed. It doesn't bother the birds but the squirrels hate it.refill

Are squirrels worth the work to skin them for a food item? If so, what is the best way to do it?
Our neighborhood was running rampant so I shot some. I was going to try eating them just because I didn't want them to be wasted, but I cut myself and they were such a pain to skin I just gave up and went and took care of the cut, which was pretty bad, and tossed them. I hated that, not sure I want to eat squirrel but hate worse to waste them. Are squirrels worth the work to skin them for a food item? If so, what is the best way to do it?
just make a cut south of the poop shoot about 2 inches wide and severing the tail bone. Then step on the feet and pull up hard and the skin will come up over the body, the rest is easy if you ever skinned anything, as it appears you have. Are squirrels worth the work to skin them for a food item? If so, what is the best way to do it?
Squirrels are excellent eating. The easiest way to skin them is to cut through the skin across the back, insert two fingers under each dise of the cut and pull. When the skin is pulled all the way to the feet/ tail anf feet/head cut off the feet, tail and head. Then turn the squirrel over, slit the belly from end to end and remove the entrails. The heart, kidneys and liver are also good to eat so toss them into the bowl as well. They can be fried, boiled until tender to make gravy, grilled, baked, etc. for a delicious meal. Usually it takes one squirrel for each person being fed.
I definitely feel that they are worth the effort to skin them. My preferred way is to make an incision through the skin around the hock of one hind leg. I carry this incision across to the other hock which I cut around. I then cut around the anus and sever the tail bone. Next I place my foot on the tail and pull up on both hind legs. If you have done as I have told you, you will have the squirrel skin pulled up around the squirrel's neck. If you wish to save the head to cook, you will have to work the skin over the head. If you do not eat the head, and some people do not, you can just sever the neck and remove the head and the attached skin. Gut it, wash off all attached hair and it is ready for the pan or freezer.
I concur with what Shooter 1 says about how to skin 'em. Truth is rodents are nutritionally excellent for large predators besides being rather tasty. They make excellent tortilla soup, squirrel and dumplings, stew, tamales, etc. I don't hunt them, but any of those fuzzy tailed rats...or tree rats...or what ever you want to call them...that get ideas about setting up house keeping too close to the house go to the freezer. When enough accumulate in the freezer (like a dozen or so...) we eat a mess of squirrel. Lst batch became squirrel mole tamales....
I can tell you what not to do:
use a fillet knife; push the fillet knife tip into the squirrel's skin and push it firmly through the squirrel skin and into the meat of your hand. Not that I've done it before or anything. . .
Try this next time:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66AVwthXg鈥?/a>
yes , squirrel are very good eating i like to skin before gutting, it seams to be less messy .pull skin down to feet then cut off feet. save tails they make grate fishing lures. brown meat, then boil and pull meat to make pot pie.
cut around the center of there body and pull half the skin to the feet and half the skin to the head, then resume cleaning. Thats what I did earlier today.
Squirrel stew, squirrel sandwich, barbecue squirrel, baked squirrel, broiled squirrel, squirrel salad.....
A friendly suggestion, squirrels aren't the best tasteing animals in the world so if i where you i would just through it in the trash.

How can I stop squirrels and birds from eating my cat's food?
you posted this many times, please becareful and you will get mostly the same answers in all of them.
YOU CANT STOP THEM
and chances are you are also feeding
Racoons
Mice
Rats
Bugs
and a multitude of other cats.
So either feed the cat in the Garage, or make it an indoor cat.
Untill then you will be serving Nature a cat food buffet.
What ever you try to do will affect the cat too so there is nothing you can do SORRY.How can I stop squirrels and birds from eating my cat's food?
Good question! This is almost impossible to do! They get into my dog food too. I moved it several times to different places so they do not get used to the same spot. but they tend to find it pretty fast.
The only thing you could do is be sure the cat is out there when it is time to eat and feed it the very same time each day. A cat tells time pretty good really. this way at least the cat will get something before the other animals do. Just do not leave the food out there and the wild animals will not be looking for it any more. How can I stop squirrels and birds from eating my cat's food?
Peace of cake. Stop feeding your cat outside! In fact stop letting your cat outside. Heres why.....
Why You Shouldn鈥檛 Let Your Cat Live Outside 101
Today鈥檚 veterinarians now know that indoor cats can live as much as 20% to 30% longer than outdoor cats and lead healthier lives doing it. This is true even if the outdoor cat is in relatively good health because it has to survive the pit falls and calamities of life.
Amongst these calamities include disease, car tires, parasites, vicious dogs, poisoning, cruel people, snake bite, coyotes and other predatory animals, extreme weather conditions, entrapment resulting in starvation and the list goes on and on.
Our cats need to be kept inside and kept safe. They need to be spayed or neutered and their shots need to be kept up to date. They depend on us for this and here鈥檚 why鈥?.
Wild vs. Domestic
Cats living in the wild for generations upon generations have the necessary skills to survive. They learn these skills from their mothers and the cat pride. Plus their natural instincts and senses are greatly heightened. As kittens they play a lot to build strength, stealth, agility, self defense skills and even the fight or flight response. They start learning to hunt at very young ages first starting with bugs and progressing as they go. In the wild they don鈥檛 have to deal with the callous ways of human beings or the continuing scourge of city life.
Domestic cats don鈥檛 have these attributes. They just simply don鈥檛 need them anymore so all those wild skills have just been lost forever. Our domestic cats wouldn鈥檛 know what to do with them even if they could find them. When you put a domestic cat outside you may as well put an unarmed solder at the battle front with a big red target painted on his chest!
This is going to be fun (Not)
So you read my little column and decided it made some sense and now you鈥檙e going to keep your cat inside. Excellent, but hear this, I never said it would be easy at first. Your cat is going to have fits and will drive you nuts for a short while wanting to go outside. You must not back down. As you are leaving use the bottom of your leg and push the cat back inside while you close the door. If someone else is home ask them to hold on to kitty until you鈥檝e gone. A sure fix is too get a metal trash can lid or something similar to that and stand just out side the door. When you see your cat trying to escape drop that lid right in front of him or her. The loud sound will scare them back inside every time. Don鈥檛 worry though, I promise the day will come soon enough that your cat will give up even trying. Then pat your self on the back because you just did a very good thing!
Meow! -Tommy
feed the cat indoors, otherwise keep the cat food after your cat has finished eating. train the cat to eat at a certain place, his cage, at a certain time then keep the food covered.
Let the cat eat the squirrels and birds. Saves money on cat food, and it's definitely a natural alternative.
Keep the food indoors.

Then pat your self on the back because you just did a very good thing!

feed the cat indoors, otherwise keep the cat food after your cat has finished eating. train the cat to eat at a certain place, his cage, at a certain time then keep the food covered.
Let the cat eat the squirrels and birds. Saves money on cat food, and it's definitely a natural alternative.
Keep the food indoors.

I have 2 baby squirrels, when do they start eating normal food? And what kind?
I don't know. Call a vet.,they can tell you.I have 2 baby squirrels, when do they start eating normal food? And what kind?
When their teeth start to come in you can start to soak bread in milk. Let them suck the milk out of the bread. They will start to get solids that way. Give them wheat bread. You can also start them on nuts and fruit and veggies. Not too much fruit because the high sugar content is not good for them. Don't give them nuts with salt on them. They like it, but it's not good for them.I have 2 baby squirrels, when do they start eating normal food? And what kind?
I gave a baby squirrel I couldn't get back in the nest, baby formula with a bottle. I introduced baby cereal and food. Fresh fruits and chopped nuts. I would avoid food with preservatives. Later, using a ferret harness and leash...I took it to the park. Gave basket and a plant to play in. Later released. The squirell brought back its babies...left a feeder and water bottle hanging from a tree outside. Squirrels are wild animals.
I had baby squirrels to and the best thing to start then on is peanut butter.then when they can they will eat peanuts in the shell. just keep them in there cage. they will choose when they want them, they also love candy, but be careful, make sure you keep those peanuts handy for them all the time. its keeps there teeth strong.good luck
at 10 months and they eat grains

A pesky squirrel entering into the my pet rabbit's cage and is eating his food, what can I do to stop this?
Get a finer mesh for the cage so the squirrel can't fit in.A pesky squirrel entering into the my pet rabbit's cage and is eating his food, what can I do to stop this?
Simple. House your rabbit indoors. Rabbits should not live outside as it is. They are meant to be house pets, a part of the family. A house rabbit lives several years longer than an outdoor rabbit.
Try going to www.cavycages.com to see some great INDOOR cages you can make for rabbits (go to photo galleries and look under ';cages for other pets';).A pesky squirrel entering into the my pet rabbit's cage and is eating his food, what can I do to stop this?
Get a different cage.
For starters, how can you call a rabbit a pet when you are keeping it outside? Pets are meant to be indoors! If you really want to keep the squirrel away from the rabbit food, bring the rabbit inside.
However, if you really must keep the rabbit outside, please read the words that follow: The squirrel is not a pest. He/She is just filling the void in its stomach. What harm has been done anyway? If the rabbit wants to have a squirrel over for dinner, let him!
Go to your local farm store and purchase a roll of chicken wire, cover your rabbits cage and be sure to not leave any spot uncovered. This will prevent him from fitting in the cage. If you haven't already, you should be sure your feed is stored in a medal container or somewhere the pests can not get into the bag. Just a suggestion in Case it was overlooked.
shoo him away
So what would be wrong with giving the squirell a little food too? They are great animals, and they become friendly to you when they are fed a little!

How do you prevent squirrels climbing up a pole and eating the birds food?
Is it too cruel to put barbed wire around the pole! How do you prevent squirrels climbing up a pole and eating the birds food?
Slide a piece of PVC pipe over the pole. They won't be able to climb the slippery surface. Only other way is a guard that looks like a garbage can lid below the feeder. How do you prevent squirrels climbing up a pole and eating the birds food?
I feed both;on the same bird table.. strong mesh(easily removable)dome over the bird table.Big enough mesh for most birds but not squirrels to get through,The dome is not quite as big as the circular table,so there`s a sort of walkway round perimeter of the dome .Bird food inside dome ;squirrel food outside the dome. Also have a couple of squirrel proof hanging bird feeders. Hours of fascinating observation.
why choose one animal over the other? My local cemetry has the same problem and they have placed the hanging birdfeeders on the end of long branches that have been niled with a load of sheets of somthing that resembles long spikes coming out of it, so that from afar it looks like there are long spikes like cactus needles, coming out of the brach itself (could replicate it by nailing long this nails though a shet of plastic which it then taped or nailed to the branch. This deters the squirrels from trying to get to the feeder (prro squirrels)
Barbed wire won't stop them. You need a squirrel trap.
If your hardware shop doesn't sell them, buy a cheap wok. Take the handle off the lid and fix it half way up the pole (hollow side down). That stops them climbing the pole although they might still abseil or parachute in.
You will laugh, but the best product to use to coat the pole is ';Astroglide';. It is found at the drug store, with the condoms and personal lubricants. No way will the squirrel get enough traction to ascend to your bird feeder.
You can buy a squirrel guard at most large stores or you can rub oil on the pole.
Get rid of the pole and throw the food in the air. Squirrels can't fly, Or can they?
Coat the pole with Vaseline!!!! They won't be able to get any traction.
put extras out for the squirrels!

What is the best way to get squirrels to stop eating all of the bird food in my feeder?
The squirrels willnot stop eating all of my bird seed in the feeders and they also knock it down! Also if anyone know is there anyway to stop raccoons from doing the same thing. What is the best way to get squirrels to stop eating all of the bird food in my feeder?
Buy a squirrel proof bird feeder.
Many squirrel proof bird feeders use squirrel baffles to block squirrels from climbing up the bird feeder pole. Other hanging bird feeders use a different strategy. A mechanism is used that is sensitive to weight, so if something as heavy as a squirrel climbs on the bird feeder, the mechanism is activated and blocks the squirrel from eating the food. What is the best way to get squirrels to stop eating all of the bird food in my feeder?

We had a similar problem and solved it by hanging our 2 bird feeders (1 seed and 1 suet) from long, steel rods on the gutter of our garage. The rods we used were actually specialized plant stakes that we bent to add hooks at either end. They have a slick finish on them which the squirrels can't hold on to and the rods are about 30'; long - too long for squirrels to reach past. The feeders are too far from the ground for them to jump up.
We haven't had a single squirrel problem since doing this.
Here's the only ways that work.
1. Hang the feeder from a sheppard's crook pole.
2. Mount it on a greased metal pole.
3. Use those large ugly metal cone things above and below the feeder. The top one must pivot.
That's it. Nothing else will work.
CAYENNE PEPPER WORS FOR ME.PUT IT IN THE BIRDSEED IT WIL NOT HARM THE BIRDS.PLUS KEEP THE FEEDERS AWAY FROM TREES
Cayenne pepper. Birds don't have taste buds as advanced as a squirrel. The squirrel will not eat seed covered in cayenne pepper but the birds will. Had this problem down in Texas and this is what was suggested to me and it worked. My squirrels were so bad they'd kill baby birds in order to eat the feed.
I cant recall how much I put per cup but it was enough so that each seed had some pepper on it. I think 1- 2 tablespoons per cup might have been what I used
You can buy what is referred to as a ';baffle'; from any feed store or store that sells bird feeders. It looks like a big metal tube and you can attach it to the pole that your feeder sits on. That way the squirels can't climp up. I've also heard of people greasing the poles but this has to be done every couple of weeks. If your feeder does not sit on a pole, just make sure it hangs far enough away from a tree where a squirel can jump on it.
Shoot them!
Simple go get a BB gun.......thats what i do to them crazy birds......it works great give it a try..........thank you have a nice day...
Put the bird feeder where they can't get to it. You would need to put it up on a pole that is slippery and which they can't get a grip on (I'd suggest putting baby oil on it) or hang it from a looooooong string somewhere that won't be easily accessible for them. There are also certain types of bird feeders made that squirrels can't get into but birds can. Check your local feed store.
BB gun
squirrel poison, i hope it doesn't kill the birds! =) just kidding i duno that's a good question, just put more food out, squirrels are cute too.
Hot pepper seasoning are good, but the best way that I've been able to deal with this is simply a squirrel proof feeder. It's designed to close whenever the little furballs step onto the feeding section and is double latched so that they can't get into it. Runs about $35-$45
Now ... with the raccoons ... I'm dealing with this problem for about a month now.
As of last week, the raccoon that we had, learned to open our squirrel proof feeders (double latch, and they worked on squirrels) which let it and the squirrel feast.
Two things seem to have worked. The first one partially, which is a squirrel and raccoon repellent. I found it at AGWAY (I think it can be purchased online) It worked for a day or two, then seemed to ease up. I'm not sure if the pollen count or rain effected it or if it just wears off.
The second thing I tried last weekend and that was the hot pepper. I actually went a step further than Cayenne and added Chili seasoning and white pepper. It seems to work so far on the back feeders ... I have one front feeder that I didn't 'season' because it's close to the road (thought the critter wouldn't go near it because of traffic) and saw the little furball hanging upside down on it last night, so I'll season that seed tonight.
Hope this helps.

Besides primates and squirrels, what other animals bring their food to their mouths when eating?
This question arose when watching a squirrel eat an acorn this morning.Besides primates and squirrels, what other animals bring their food to their mouths when eating?
In addition to the many already mentioned, pandas are noted for doing this as well - and even have a modified nodule of one of the bones of their wrist that acts as a thumb to allow them to hold bamboo while they feed.
Elephants are another one, although they of course use their trunks instead of their forepaws for food manipulation. Tapirs and rhinos use prehensile lips or short trunks to do the same.
Critters like giraffes and chameleons also use their tongues to pull food into their mouths.
One of the cooler adaptations to do this occurs in dragonfly larvae. In insects, there are a number of limbs essentially modified to form food manipulators - the various mandibles, maxillae, etc. In dragonfly larvae, the last set of these appendages, the labrum is modified into an spoon-shaped arm-like, extensible appendage equipped with grabbers, hooks and poky bits that hooks aquatic prey and brings it into the mouth. It looks a little like the extra shootie-outtie mouth that the Aliens have, and is fascinating to watch in action.Besides primates and squirrels, what other animals bring their food to their mouths when eating?
Some parrots do too. A lot of the cockatoos do, and kakarikis (a type of parrot from NZ) do as well.
scorpions, crabs, some other crustaceans, preying mantis, rats and mice sometimes do, possums, other small rodents and marsupials.
Assuming you mean with their paws or using knives and forks, hamsters perform admirably and, unsurpisingly, our nearest cousins and every primate I can presently think of. If you want to include sticky tongue lashing of termites and ants, fling in anteaters, and echidna monotremes.
That's not intended as being in any way complete.
to be pedantic, all animals bring food to their mouths, otherwise how could they eat?! (I assume you mean with their hands!)
- otters, both river and sea
- some mice do (I think field-mice and dormice)
- crabs and lobsters use mandibles to bring food to their mouth
- squid and octopuses (octopi?) use their tentacles
- humans if we don麓t count as primates
can麓t think of any others off the top of my head
EDIT:
oh can麓t forget monkeys (ie not primates), the majority (if not all) simians use their hands to feed
Well, only apes have opposable thumbs. And of the apes only humans have a foreshortened thumb that allows it the percision grasping ability not found in other apes.

Is it wrong to put food out for squirrels in my yard sometimes?
Just a handfull of cherrios. Thanks for your opinion. Is it wrong to put food out for squirrels in my yard sometimes?
No, not wrong at all.
But a few things to think about:
Cheerios are reasonably empty calories for squirrels, just like they are for people, and for a squirrel trying to make it through winter, filling up on cheerios instead of nuts/seeds means it won't be getting as many necessary things like fats, oils, vitamins, and minerals. Getting some official squirrel food (mainly a variety of nuts and seeds) from a store would be a bit more healthy for them.
Second, it's not just squirrels that will eat them. I'm sure you won't mind the birds and chipmunks that eat them too. But if you leave much out, the human foods will also attract more agressive critters, like racoons and opossums, and even very undesirable critters like mice and rats. You might want to make sure you are not leaving out much (sounds like you just toss out a little bit, so this last issue should really not be a problem at all).Is it wrong to put food out for squirrels in my yard sometimes?
I don't think so, but maybe u should buy special food for squirrels instead of giving them cherrios... they will just grow costume of you giving them food...come to your yard more often.
Don't give to much and to often, so they don't only depend on the food you give them...
It's not bad for the squirrle but if you want to have a much of critters around your house than go ahead. they're going to keep coming back and in larger numbers. they will also go through your garbage alot more.
I personally don't think so. Many people buy squirrel feeders and fill them with nuts in their yard. It helps the squirrels out.
Do you really want to have a yard full of bushy-tailed tree rats? Wait until they find a way to get into your attic.
No, not wrong at all.

We were feeding him roasted salted sunflower seeds, he loves them. But I did a little research and found out that salt is bad for them. I suggested carrots, but we don't want ants/birds coming in. What else can I feed him?

corn...the birds will eat sunflower seeds, and rabbits will get your carrots.....but squirrels love corn, dried corn, not on the cob. You can buy sacks of it at a feed store, or find just the dried ears of corn at any garden store.

corn...the birds will eat sunflower seeds, and rabbits will get your carrots.....but squirrels love corn, dried corn, not on the cob. You can buy sacks of it at a feed store, or find just the dried ears of corn at any garden store.
Don't... Shoot em! Squirrel meat tastes like bacon too...
LOL @ some of the answers,,, corn%26lt;%26lt; a bird will eat that aswell,,, why not just feed all the animals,,, geesh
Why did God design the squirrel to steal his food from bird feeders?
That's right, Squirrel - you've got a free ticket to hell! Why did God design the squirrel to steal his food from bird feeders?
Perhaps the issue is that bird feeders were unintelligently designed by furless primates or flightless birds.

Oh, leave now, huh? FINE! ((((PENGUIN))))
I hope there's nothing missing from your bird feeder or house or bank account when you wake up. Squirrels control the whole financial institution you know. Why did God design the squirrel to steal his food from bird feeders?

God feeds his animals, They all serve a purpose in life too. And no animal goes to hell.
I don't know, but if you figure it out, please let my Lab know. She's been trying to get to those damn squirrels for 2 years now...
My dad shoots squirrels that do that here.
and my dad is a Great shot, he uses insects (bee's wasps etc.) for target practice.
I'm a great shot too, but nothing compared to my dad.
Satan makes them do it.

Squirrel eating bird food....?
You know how they sell every single tipe of food container or however you call it for birds to eat and they are made special so that squirrels don't eat the food, but;
Why aren't squirrels supposed to eat bird food?
I want a real answer not just: ';because then the birds don't have anything to eat';.....
Thanks!Squirrel eating bird food....?
The squirrels can eat the bird food. It is good for them too. I don't think they care much about millet but the rest of the seeds they love especially sunflower seeds and corn. They like everything that a bird likes as far as seeds go. It's just that they take all the bird food and then there is nothing left in the bird feeder. Then everyone gets upset. The squirrel will store it up. They don't' know any better. I put up a special squirrel feeder next to the bird feeder. The birds can eat their food and the squirrel still gets to eat too. My kids love watching him. We even have a chipmunk that comes too. He eats at either the bird feeder or the squirrel feeding station.Squirrel eating bird food....?
well my squriells like eating bird food i feed them sunflower seeds too but u need to feed them the sunflower seeds outside cause somtimes they hide the package and u need to keep the sunflower seeds
U CAN FEED SQURIELLS BIRD FOOD!!!
I think people prefer to have birds feeding in their yards rather than squirrels. I have a friend in Sarasota, Florida and he tried to get his bird feeder far away where the squirrels couldn't get it because so many of them would come around! Well, he hung it in practically mid air where he assumed only birds could get to it... wrong!
We came over and watched as the squirrels literally leaped through the air and clung onto the bird feeder as it swung roughly back and forth! That's how desperate they were to get the food out of it. And this huge jump would make it all spill out and so the others would run on the ground and gather it all up! It was hilarious.
Squirrel's love bird seed. It is not that they are not suppose to eat it, it's that the birds don't get anything to eat. If the squirrels eat the seed you will be going broke buying bird seed. They will eat till it's all gone once they find it they will be there forever and all the kids they then produce.
It is not that they aren't supposed to eat bird food it is that they will eat it all. They make feeders for squirrels that they can crawl into for their own food. They also destroy the bird feeders getting the food out.
I LOVE to watch the squirrels. They are so funny.
First come, first serve.

How can we keep squirrels from stealing the food from the bird feeder?
my mother used to have bird feeders on a pole, in the middle of the yard, away from trees. She used to vaseline the poles to keep the squirrels away. How can we keep squirrels from stealing the food from the bird feeder?
I think just about anyone that puts out bird feeders has a squirrel or two that messes with the feeder. I have tried everything. Even those new ';squirrel proof'; feeders. Two different kinds. One swings around like crazy when the squirrel gets on it. They learned how to slow it down do they can still get the food. The other feeder has a perch on it and when the squirrel gets on it his weight closes the feeder. Well they have learned to get around that too. I put Cayenne
pepper around and in the food, heck, the squirrels don't mind. I think they like it. I used the slippy barriers, but they did not work either. The squirrels have all day to figure all of these things out. Finally, I gave in and just put a squirrel feeder on the other side of the house and keep it full. I put peanuts and sunflower seeds and corn in it. I also put a few woodpecker logs (squirrels love them) around the squirrel feeder. At least now, they don't empty my bird feeders. They still come to the bird feeders once in a while, but not near as often. How can we keep squirrels from stealing the food from the bird feeder?
Two approaches - food that they do not care for or is not wirth their effort, and physical barriers.
First - stuff the do not like you can look up on line. To make it not worth their effort, put out something that is easy for them to get at with food they like, so they will not want to hassle with the bird feeder. It will take experiemtning.
Second build a barrier that makes it impossible for them to get a grip and move around. A circle of slick metal, that has a radius longer than their body length should work. It would go on the string well above the feeder. Should keep some rain off %26amp; provide shade too.
See links for more info/ideas - especially the last one, it'll crack you up!
why do you want to? have you seen the gymnastics some people have got squirrels to do for a nut? the only way to stop them is to make the table impossible to climb with some sort of ';skirt'; round the edge, and put it far from walls and trees that the squirrels can jump from.
there is a type of bird feeder that when some animal heaver than a bird that the door will just close on theme so they wont get the food from the bird feeder
I hang feed corn on the cob from a low hanging tree limb ...tie it with a small cord about three feet from the ground...make the squirrels work for it
